You’ve decided to rush a sorority, and you’re starting to feel nervous as you try to understand what qualifies as sorority clothing. With every sorority being different from the next, we cannot give advice about Greek apparel, but we can offer some tips to help you rush successfully.
1) Keep it real
You need to be honest and be yourself. The members of the sorority you’re rushing are watching to see if you’re the kind of person they want as a sister, and they’re not going to sit around analyzing your sorority apparel. You will be spending a lot of time with your new sisters, and, if you pretend to be someone you’re not, you may find yourself in a sorority where you don’t fit in.
2) Research, research, research!
Learn about the different sororities on your campus. Sororities are as diverse as people, and you should take time to learn a little about each one. Ask the sorority sisters lots of questions. Talking to potential sorority sisters is also a great way to break the ice, introduce yourself, and show that you’re interested in their sorority.
3) Meet everyone you can.
Get to know the girls you’re rushing with, and get to know the sisters of the sororities. Sororities are all about networking and making friends who can challenge you and help you grow. Rush is a great time to do that.
4) Put your best foot forward.
Dress for success? You should for rush. You might think this means it’s time to stock up on Greek apparel or find some specific sorority clothing that looks like it’s from a movie. Don’t do that. Be yourself, and don’t wear clothes that make you feel uncomfortable. If you’re confident rocking four-inch heels all the time, that’s great, but a clean pair of sneakers or classy flats is just as good. The right sorority apparel for you is clothing that you can wear confidently.
5) Enjoy yourself.
Rushing might make you feel nervous. You’re meeting new people, trying to decide what clothes to wear, and worrying about getting into your first choice. Let go of the tension and just enjoy rush as mush as you can. Rushing a sorority is usually a once in a lifetime experience, and you should treasure every moment of it.
