Cracking open the books to study can be a challenging discipline for college students. It requires uninterrupted time and dedicated focus to make it through a paper or study guide. Simple distractions such as text messages, hearing a favorite song, or even hunger can quickly through off your concentration.

Creating the right study environment for your learning style can help the brain effectively absorb information. And eating high nutrients foods can further stimulate the brain to assimilate knowledge more thoroughly and get you ready to ace that presentation and crush your exams.

1. Go Nuts!

Almonds, pistachios, and walnuts contain high levels of essential fatty acids that allow the brain to perform better. Nuts also contain iron which produces more oxygen in the brain. This increases your mental ability to retain information and remain focused during study sessions. Nuts increase the body’s energy by providing it with good fats and calories which the brain needs to function at an optimal level.

2. Whole Grains

Refined carbs cause the body to feel sluggish, tired, and lethargic. Additionally, they can result in mental dullness. Instead, eating whole grains will enhance memory function and provide a slow burning energy boost.

3. Fabulous Fruits

Fruit is essential to mental awareness and vitality. Apples are the perfect snack to boost cognitive function because their peels contain powerful antioxidants that enhance memory function. Adding peanut butter to the apples contributes the protein and good fats found in nuts to keep the brain alert.

Eating berries can also significantly aid your study time and brain function because they are loaded with fatty acids, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.

4.  Hummus

Hummus is made from chick peas which are a great source of protein. And hummus is known to improve intelligence and health because of its Omega-3 fatty acids and amino acids.

5. Enjoy Dark Chocolate

When in need of a pick-me-up, grab dark chocolate instead of a candy bar. Dark chocolate with a high percentage of cocoa is celebrated for its ability to improve alertness and clarity by increasing blood flow to the brain. The darker the chocolate, the better it stimulates the brain.

6. Turkey Sandwich

Lean meats like turkey and chicken are both healthy and full of protein. Adding these essential proteins to a whole grain piece of bread provides the body with energy as well as mental attentiveness.

7. Yum for Yogurt

Yogurt, especially plain or Greek kinds, is enriched with protein and vitamins. Eating this snack both improves cognitive function and gives energy to the body. When eaten with granola, the healthy carbs in the cereal combined with the protein of the yogurt will make your body feel fuller and give long lasting energy.

8. Granola Bars

Speaking of granola, bars make the perfect portable snacks chock full of tasty fiber and nutrients beneficial to brain function. Granola bars have healthy carbs from oats and extra healthy ingredients such as honey, dark chocolate, peanut butter, peanuts, almonds or raisins.

Grabbing one of these nutritious snacks while studying will help your brain absorb more information and remain alert to help get you through a successful semester.
