Students Occupy America
John McAuliff is a college journalist with ambition, ideas and initiative. He contacted me in the fall of 2011 with the following request.
I’d like to become your Occupy Wall Street Correspondent. I am a college student with work published in USA Today College and other print/online media outlets, and the OWS protests are deeply meaningful to college students today. You’ll get as many articles as you want, as often as you want them, including commentary and analysis, interviews, and photos from around the country, all exclusive to Campus Talk. All I ask for in return is a byline, since I am hoping to reach a wider audience than I have before. I’ll promote each article and direct a little extra traffic to your blog as well... If you like the idea of having someone to report on the movement--certainly a student activity--just let me know, and I'll be your guy.
I like John's initiative and his ability to carve out a niche for himself instead of just doing what I call "squeezing into the box." I'd also like to hear what he has to say. I'm interested in his perspective, I'm interested in his ability to express himself, I'm interested in how all of this "Occupy America" that has captured our headlines will affected him and his peers. I'm interested in any new ideas they may have about how to get us out of this 'box' we have worked ourselves into doing things the old way.
So that's what you have here. I've given John the opportunity he asked for and he's our Occupy Wall Street Correspondent. His words, opinions and perspective are pretty much his own and unaltered by my editing filter. I hope you'll support John and join him in this conversation. Whether you agree with him or not, the conversation is open.
PEACE. Rick, CampusTalkBlogitor
