Feeling pressured in your college life?

Do you feel like you are always hurrying to get things done? Are you suffering from burnout? Does it feel like you hardly ever get your needs met?

If you answered “yes” to any of the above questions, you could be going through a very important life lesson. That lesson is learning how to become wise about the pressures of the world. It may feel like a drag now but you will be thankful for learning this lesson as you move beyond college and into the next phase of your life!

If the above questions don’t resonate with you, perhaps the following “pressure indicators” will generate some discussion in your mind. Do you often find yourself saying…?

  • I need something new in my life
  • I have to get this done today
  • I don’t want to waste any time
  • What am I going to focus on?
  • I have to eat fast to get on with my day (or, I don’t need to eat right now because it will take too much time)
  • I can’t say “no” to him (or her)

If the above scenario is a reflection of your life in college and it is not working for you, it is time to change the program! If you are constantly feeling overwhelmed from the pressures of life, start making changes by doing the following:

Notice How you Handle Stress – Some of us are very logical and focused about the way we hande stress by taking steps and going deeply into them before moving to the next step, others have a fixed way of dealing with pressure, and others are totally unpredictable and very emotional. Identify which category sounds like you, determine if it is working for you and if not, try another way.

Take time to make decisions – As a coach, I work with clients who rush into decisions only to feel regret, frustration, and shame on the other side of their decision. Sleep on it for a day or two and then make the decision from a place of peace. You will feel like it was the correct decision when you make promises that you can honor.

Remember, self empowerment is one of the key components of living a Growth in Motion™!! lifestyle.
